Google: Moving to Hardware now?

For years have we seen Google rising to the most used search engine, with phenomenal projects and products around the world. Google Search, Google Maps, Google Chrome, Google Translate, Google Drive, Google Wallet, Android, Blogger, YouTube, Gmail, and those are off the top of my head! These are all software, but has Google tried and tested all of the possible corners of software? From mail, to voice, to everyday needs to finance, Google covers it all! Now, when Android came along, it showed the merging point between software and hardware, using their software, as the main need in pieces of hardware. The Chromebook has come along, and even cars now, so it is pretty much done and dusted, Google is moving into hardware. They have just acquired "Next", who are again, an amazing household device, and again, hardware!
