The Market for Cell Phones - An Oligopoly

It is never easy to start a business. Though the process may be easily mapped out, it is hard to execute it. However, there are certain markets where the barriers to entry and so high, it is almost impossible to proceed! The cell phone market is the premium example. Apple, Samsung, HTC and Microsoft are presiding over the market share. This oligopoly makes it near impossible for new business to have a go at the market. In fact, Blackberry was one of the big names at one point, however these companies have seized so much power, Blackberry is being pushed out. Nokia was once the main trend, however as it was knocked out of the throne, Microsoft gave it a hand, by taking it in, and is now slowly pulling it up. Yes, Microsoft is rising up in the cell phone market too, after acquiring Nokia's phone division, to form Microsoft Mobile. Google of course also lurks around the cell phone business, producing its series of Operating Systems, and the main competition for iOS, Android. These major companies have invented strategies, to avoid saturating the market. Thinking about it, releasing a new line of phones is the strategy. Apple and Samsung mainly, have created a want for their phones, and increasing the screen size, making the phone thinner and adding one frivolous little feature makes them billions as "The new phone that's in".
