WeChat is one of the most used instant-messaging applications in Asia. It has approximately 272 million active users. This shows clearly how common instant-messaging smartphone applications as such are becoming. As popular as this software is, WeChat is beginning to face new competition in the market, as international software businesses begin to plant their apps in the Asian Market. Yes, WeChat may have spent over $100 million on advertising & marketing in the region, to get a good firm stab into the market, and made a rather intelligent move by putting international celebrities such as the CF Barcelona’s star, Lionel Messi in their advertisements, however software companies, like those that own “WhatsApp” are now planning to take significant strides towards the Asian market in the field, which may pose as a potential threat to WeChat’s business and their market share. Not only WhatsApp, but the popular application, Line has also began to seed its business into Asia, and has already delivered, by consistently remaining in the top 3 smartphone downloads, while WeChat has swiftly rolled down the charts, to be lucky to stay in the top 10. In the most recent statistics, there were over 1 million applications on the Google Play Store, Android Market. After evaluations, results showed that 78% of those were well-coded and professional applications. The Smartphone Application market is growing more and more competitive by the day, and software publishers must be ready to invest extra into their applications for it to stay high in the charts, especially with global technology market players entering this specific area of business.
