Combining Generations: The LiveScribe Smartpen

One of the hardest tasks is interpreting concepts from the past into today’s modern society. Schools begin to adopt 1:1 laptop learning schemes, offices become technology based and businesses become more capital intensive. Hand written letters are becoming formal business emails as the entire world evolves and becomes more and more reliant on technology. Society is slowly removing the concepts that were once the main idea, and becoming more and more advanced in terms of technology available, information and communication. New and innovative ideas lead the change, and one of the firms at the front of the line, is a small business headquartered in Oakland, California – Livescribe. Livescribe products combine the technology and computers used today, with writing and drawing by hand. When writing, you can record, write and link audio with text. The Livescribe smart-pen comes with an on board recorder, so when in a meeting, you can just hit record then play back later. The on board recorded then links the recording to what you write. The pen has an infrared camera in the front, allowing it to record everything you write or draw, as well as store it if needed in the future. This also allows the calculator feature to work, where you can solve mathematics equations, by writing it down! You only need to follow the appropriate steps provided in the manual of the pen. After this, you can go home and connect the pen to your laptop, and have all your notes in one place. Once your notes are on your laptop, sharing is at your fingertips! Livescribe’s impressive use of software, allows word recognition as well as the ability to download more add-ons, expanding its range of features to things like translation and even games. When purchased, the pack comes with the special Livescribe paper, which has the necessary alterations for the pen. In the notepad, there is a page with specially configured symbols, which are used to control the pen, and navigate its apps and settings. If you run out of the actual paper, you can print out more from the actual software. Its definitely a savvy investment to put some money into this brilliant innovation.
